In grade eleven I made instant friends with a new addition to our class: Johanna Kilbridge. She was the only person in our small art class to really do photography. Our teacher Mrs. Allen dusted off our tiny darkroom so Johanna could develop and print her own 35mm film. At the same time, I was picking up the French horn as a minor in music class, having so far stuck to woodwinds (my majors were flute and tenor sax). New instruments, new mediums, and a new friendship came together in this colour shoot that Johanna and I did. This self portrait is based on one of those photos, and is roughly 17" by 11", watercolour and ink on watercolour paper.
